Nocturne: Stephansplatz, Vienna

Most medieval neighborhoods that surrounded Gothic churches are unfortunately lost to the ages. In Vienna, recent buildings nearby work like their ancient predecessors to obscure the Cathedral of St. Stephen until one enters the lively plaza seen here at night. The scale of this church is extraordinary even without the much taller bell tower out of view to the right.
