Pantheon Interior

This well-preserved church (originally a Roman temple) has been in continuous use since its construction two thousand years ago, protecting it for us to marvel at today. When it was built, it was and still is the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. The masonry exterior belies the rich marble interior of the drum that leads to the coffered dome and oculus opening the space to the sky. The inspiration for its design and the original use of the Pantheon both remain lost to history.
