Art Institute of Chicago West Facade

The classical west façade of the Art Institute of Chicago has proven to be a timeless design when one considers how the area around it has grown over time. Once alone on the east side of Michigan Avenue, it is now embraced by gardens to the north and south with mature trees and sculptures. To the west, afternoon shadows of more recently built skyscrapers perfectly frame the entrance when viewed from Adams Street.
